Dayna started her shift by assessing one of her patients who was to go for his dialysis treatment within the hour. Her patient stated his heart hurts and by some quick questioning and concern for her patient, Dayna found out that her patient was very sad (heart-broken) because he just found out about his mother who had passed away unexpectedly in her sleep.
Dayna took her time to provide extra compassionate nursing care and when her patient was off the floor for his treatment, she took her break at the gift shop to purchase a flower and sympathy card. Her patient was surprised to return to his room with such a simple empathetic gesture. It brought tears to his eyes and he was very grateful. Dayna is a very passionate nurse and often takes extra steps towards her patients' emotional and psychological needs.
