One night about 2 am, Dawn came in to check on me. I was a nervous wreck not knowing what exactly was wrong with me, not to mention I was in pain, and the middle of the night was just not a good time. She asked me how I was and of course, I said I was fine. She didn't buy my story and sat down next to me and took my hand and we just talked. Soon she had me laughing so hard. I was ready to just give up at that point, but she wouldn't let me. She stayed a few more minutes until she was sure that I was calm enough to sleep. She was there for me when I felt alone and lonely. She truly exemplifies what a nurse is all about. I owe her a big debt of gratitude for her caring and compassion when I needed it.
