Miata is one of the best nurses I know. She is kind, humble, caring, smart, compassionate, and always willing to help. She exhibited all these characteristics and more when a patient first came to our unit. This patient came to us from a nursing home without much in the way of family or friends. She ended up staying on our unit for a while, eventually requiring a tracheostomy with ventilator dependence and a feeding tube. Because of these things, it took some time to get her placement in a rehabilitation center.
During the patient's stay on our unit, Miata took the time to do her hair and just visit with her, even when she was not assigned to care for her that day. When this patient eventually left for a rehab center, she and Miata exchanged contact information so they could keep in touch.
Much to our surprise, this patient returned to our unit. Miata continued to care for her the way she always did, fixing her hair every week and making sure she had everything she needed even when she was not assigned to care for her that day. When this patient was ready to leave our unit for a different rehab this time, Miata went out and bought this patient a new outfit for the occasion!
I know Miata has made a difference in the life of this patient as well as so many others that are lucky enough to have her as their nurse. I am honored to work beside Miata every day. She is certainly one of the good ones.
