I wanted to take the time to acknowledge a very special nurse and fellow co-worker, Melissa Caldwell. She is exceptional on the daily here with all her patients in making sure she turns their rooms around so that they can look out the windows or see the tv picture better. She goes above and beyond daily. However, recently I witnessed something very special between her and one of our neuro ICU patients.
A patient who has been in the ICU for months. She not only had him out of bed and in a chair, but she also had the room set up like a cute hotel suite. She was playing a brain game with him in the Neuro ICU. She also sat next to him in his chair, spent time with him because he did not get a lot of company, and she watched "The Price is Right" with him. I personally have had this patient several times and I had not witnessed him that happy as he was in those special moments with Melissa. She took the extra time because she always goes above and beyond for her patients and their care. It was truly a touching moment that needed to be recognized. Her dedication to making her patient feel so special and attended to should not go unnoticed.
