I was rounding on patients on a unit. I came across a lady who seemed distraught but was willing to talk to me. She stated, "Just come back in a little while and I would be glad to talk to you." I proceeded on with my rounding and returned to her room later. She was much calmer and content. I asked if she was doing better and her statement was: "Greg is an angel".
Greg, who is routinely in a different unit, had been floated to this unit that day and was assigned with this very lovely lady. She had received some unfortunate news from her physician and was quite upset, as she stated to the point of a "panic attack". She believed that because of Greg's wonderful care, understanding and willingness to stay with her, she got through it! She stated, "Greg stayed with me for 45 minutes and talked to me, really cared about me. Greg's comfort and soothing words kept me from having a panic attack. On a scale from 1-10, Greg gets a 15!"
I have seen Greg in action with patients before and have always been totally impressed with his level of professionalism and caring attitude. I believe that perhaps he was sent by this patient's guardian angel that day to help her through a rough time. Greg's actions make him a true DAISY Nurse. He not only has clinical expertise but also exemplifies extraordinary compassion and care for patients.
