Robert came to the ED on his day off to bring a troubled, difficult, behavioral patient a gift. The day before, Robert was the nurse for this patient and the patient was having a bad day and had to be medicated on several occasions to help with his behavior. Days prior, there were multiple occasions where the patient had to be given a sedative to prevent him from hurting himself or others.
Robert asked the patient what he enjoyed playing and what the patient chose was the game UNO. The next day, Robert came into the ED with a blue gift bag and UNO cards inside. The look on the patient's face said it all. Robert stayed a while to show the patient how to play and count numbers. Robert said goodbye and walked away. Seeing this made me tear up on the inside.
