My mom recently had major surgery. Knowing my mom, I was very concerned she would not let me leave her side after surgery. Being a TriHealth nurse and being on the other side as a family member of a patient, you see how wearing things become. I knew that I needed my rest also especially because I would be taking care of my mom once she was home.
My mom arrived in CVICU late evening after her surgery. David was her night nurse. Just his presence and mannerisms you could feel that he was an excellent nurse. He explained everything that was happening, informed us what was going to happen, and most importantly he was very comforting to my mom, treated her with respect, and gave her the emotional support she also needed. When it came to the time when I thought I should leave, I hesitantly told my mom I was leaving and she was in good hands with him. Surprisingly she replied, "I know, I can tell. Goodnight, see you tomorrow." I was able to go home and rest and know my mom would be taken care of with him. When I came back the next day, my mom stated she felt very secure during the night. She said that she told him, "God sent you to me." It is very comforting to know that another TriHealth nurse in another building, another department, and one that I never met, takes value in the great care they give to patients as I feel that I try to do also.
