I would like to recognize Michelle Bowers for her true heart-felt compassion for my illness. I was admitted to this unit for a couple of weeks with a diagnosis of End-Stage Liver Failure with lots of fears and questions. She was my attending nurse for the major part of my stay. She would always find the time to answer my questions, make me feel not so alone and afraid of being here. If I had questions of my care or plan of action, she would do anything in her power to help alleviate my concerns and get me answers. She would go out of her way to not just discuss my medical situation but be there as a non-judgmental friend in my darkest time to cheer me up. She would work relentlessly with my team of doctors to get answers I could understand. Things like checking in on me on a timely basis to make sure I felt at ease every time she was on shift. This included just making me feel like I mattered even though my outlook is still pretty grim. It is going above and beyond just her role of a nurse and outstanding caregiver, which I believe makes her a DAISY Nurse. This is the least I can do for everything that she did for me during my stay and my outlook as I move forward, no matter how it might end.
