The staff of 7SW would like to recognize Jo Goffinet as a DAISY Nurse Leader. Jo is instrumental in the running of our unit. She dedicates herself to ensuring we have the tools needed to provide the best possible care to our patients. The staff of 7SW has worked closely with her for the last two years to prepare to be an effective Trauma Unit, and we have seen firsthand how hard she works to support the nurses and CNAs of the unit. On top of that, she continues to ensure our unit maintains its Comprehensive Stroke certification. Jo has also collaborated closely with the unit based council and charge nurses to innovate workflow to ensure patients receive the best care as the hospital transitioned to new staffing.
Jo's practice is holistic. She celebrates examples of empathy between staff and patients or families each month at council meetings and in staff meetings. She continually looks beyond the hospital stay, exploring ways to promote rest and healing. Jo also promotes an inclusive culture that encourages non-retaliatory reporting to address safety issues. Nurses feel safe reporting concerns because we know she has our back and errors won't be repeated. Her expertise has been greatly appreciated and the staff of 7SW and we wish Jo to receive the recognition she so deserves. How she does all this AND do the same for her other units is mind-boggling. 7SW wouldn't be the same team-work driven unit without her!

Jo has done countless awesome things that honestly, I can't put into words. Let's talk about where our confidence would be as nurses on 7SW in regard to trauma. We were like deer in headlights and scared of the change! Jo made sure we knew what we needed to get that boost of confidence. Jo worked hard to provide teaching material and countless hours of class training. She didn't stop there. Jo followed up with every one of us to make sure we had what we needed to be successful in this new role. She continued and continues, to follow up and help in any way needed to continue the success of this floor and the staff. This is just one of Jo's many roles.
It doesn't stop with trauma. She's also our floor liaison for safety, mental health, stroke, an ear to listen to, etc. With all this that she does for us, it makes us wonder when does she have time for herself. She is our savior. In all honesty how/when does she have time for herself?? In my opinion as a nurse on 7SW, we wouldn't be strong confident nurses without her. She looks at us as people and always, even in our error, figures how can we work as a team and not individually to fix the problem. Again this is just a bit that she does for our team.

Jo is always such a tremendous asset to our floor and the hospital. I know that I can call her anytime (literally anytime- I have called in the evenings and weekends several times when I really need her). She is compassionate, kind, and incredibly responsive to our needs. I know that if I call her with an issue she will be up to the unit in no time with her little black binder to get the details and get to work on it. I don't even greet her by name anymore, instead, I tell her every time I see her, "Hello favorite CNS". I can't imagine 7SW without Jo. She goes to bat for us every time we need her to and is our voice when we don't feel we have one. I don't know what we would do without her. She is a true DAISY Nurse Leader.

Jo has been amazing putting education together for the nurses to get ready for trauma. She took the anxiety of a new specialty and put it into perspective any nurse could understand. I would not be a confident trauma nurse without her help.
