My father's speedy recovery can be attributed to the amazing connection that Jared made with my father. He understood his personality and how to inspire optimism and empower my dad to actively participate in his own recovery. There are a lot of good nurses but having the emotional intelligence and capability to connect with a patient like I saw Jared do with my dad is highly unusual and special. He has such a special effect in working with patients.
I am a doctor and can tell you from years of experience it is rare to find a nurse like Jared.

I met with this family when they submitted this nomination as they were absolutely blown away about the care that they received from Jared. Their comments included that there were no bad nurses, but Jared truly was different.
The daughter who wrote this nomination told me the story that her father was admitted to the hospital while they were up here in Maine away from home, and they all lived far away. Her father was an independent man normally and seeing her dad in distress was difficult especially since she herself is a physician. She said that everyone was great but stated that Jared gave her father more dignity by supporting him to be as independent as he could be. She stated that no matter what was going on, Jared was always checking in with him and adjusting the plan throughout his shift based on her father's physical, cultural and medical needs. She said that he did this seamlessly and when he stated that he would be back to do something he came back to do it.
Her feelings were that as a provider she knows how the system should work and when she puts in orders that she envisions them to be a certain way. She knows that many times that orders are not always interpreted or carried out the way that the provider wants them due to communication issues. However, she would frequently witness Jared confirming with the team what was supposed to happen and clarifying orders or challenging them to ensure that her father's wishes were also being included.
