At 38-years-old, neither my husband nor I have spent much time in a hospital, so when he was admitted for 12 days, we were both nervous and scared and did not know what to expect. We had already been in the hospital for 2 days when we were introduced to Brandy on day 3. To this point, I had not gotten many answers to my questions and I had a major concern about my husband's breathing. He had been on a low level of oxygen since arriving at the ER, but I knew he was still struggling to breathe.
Brandy was the first person who took my concern seriously and began to monitor him closely. She checked on him often and watched as he sat up in the bed and struggled to breathe. She was instrumental in getting him better care. She documented and informed the night shift nurse at shift change as to the situation and later that night we were moved to the ICU step down. He was then placed on BiPap for the night and then 2 days of high flow oxygen where he could be monitored by the minute. We later found out that he had a partially collapsed lung. Without her care, I am not sure how long he would have struggled like that.
While being in step down, we were fortunate enough to have her again. Brandy continued to watch him closely and continued to show us compassion and care. She answered all of the questions to the best of her ability that I had, and I know some were probably silly. But she never made me feel paranoid or stupid for asking and being concerned. She was always so patient with me when I had questions, I never felt like I annoyed her. The following days we never had her as a nurse again, but she worked 3 more shifts while we were in the hospital and every day she was there, she would stop in and check on us. Even when she could have been halfway home after a long shift, she still stopped in to check on us.
After being there for over a week and sleeping there every night, Brandy helped me find a more comfortable chair to help me rest so I could stay strong to help my husband. She continued to do a lot of things she considered small things, but they were such a huge blessing to my husband and me while we were in the hospital. I cannot imagine what our experience would have been like without her. We are so thankful and grateful to have met Brandy and have her take care of us. We could never thank her enough.

I appreciate the time Brandy took to make certain all my discharge information was correct. She had to go back and make several changes but was patient and thorough throughout the process. She made sure I understood all of the information.
