I recently had my "other" knee replacement surgery. I've had several surgeries at WDH and have all great things to say about the care and overall atmosphere at WDH. However, my nurse, Aubrey, was a true standout. She has strong skills and gives confidence to me as a patient, by her aura of strength and that confidence. What makes me want to write this award nomination for her is her special "people skills".
Aubrey could tell if I felt chatty, or if I wanted to lay low and semi-sleep. She has excellent skills in the way she can be so intuitive when asking what she could do to help and by offering helpful (not intrusive) suggestions, too, based on what she knows a nurse's skill set includes. She gave me lots of confidence!
When I complimented her and thanked her for her help and insightful kindness, she said: "Well, thank you - I try." I replied, "Well you make it look easy and you helped me immensely." Her smile upon hearing that was absolutely heartwarming! It's great to see someone in a role, helping people as nurses do, but do that role with such a great combination of warm personality, professionalism, and intuitive humor and interpersonal skills. Aubrey has skills that cannot be taught to others, but sure could be contagious, so patients and colleagues can benefit from seeing what a multi-faceted nurse is capable of.
