Codee is an amazing nurse. She has been nominated multiple times and is always mentioned and complimented in leadership rounding. Patients love her and with good reason. Codee takes the time to know and understand her patients. She makes real connections that not only aide the healing process but allow her to make an impact in their lives.
While other nurses focus on the daily tasks and orders that must be completed, Codee not only completes these tasks but takes the extra time to stay and listen to her patients. I have experienced numerous occasions where Codee has gone above and beyond. One example is when she was able to calm a confused patient by learning he loved Johnny Cash. She played the music to him and sang to him while feeding him breakfast.
Another time, she helped her patient gain enough confidence to withstand a complicated dressing change by playing music and singing and dancing and bringing light to what was a traumatic situation for that patient. She sat and cried with this same patient when the patient stated she was too afraid to look at the large wound to her stomach that had a lasting emotional impact on her and her family's lives. I have seen the love and compassion she spills into the care for her patients. Always with a smile, always with positivity and some humor. I think we could all learn from Codee. She exemplifies what it means to have humankindness. I feel very lucky to have met her and to work alongside her.
