I just wanted to take the time to tell you how wonderful Alyssa is. As if we all don't know how wonderful a nurse she is. What she did today for a patient takes the cake!
Our patient came in from the ETD Friday night. He is a 48-year-old man who just was diagnosed with a brain mass. Today he is going to have a craniotomy that may change the course of his life. Neurosurgery told him that he may lose the way to speak and the use of his left side. His only request to Alyssa today was to be able to get married to his fiancé before his surgery Monday.
Alyssa called numerous judges, chaplains, and finally figured out how to get the mayor from Fort Lee to come to the hospital to officiate the wedding. She also got a cake and flowers set up so that the wedding would take place in the garden and not in the patient's room. Alyssa constantly goes above and beyond. She takes the extra step for patients to feel safe and comfortable. In a time of patient's life that may be their worst, Alyssa makes the extra effort to make it better.
