Our first born was admitted to the Pediatric unit at only 3 days old before we even had a chance to bring her home. We were worried, scared, upset, exhausted and this was not a part of our plan. We chose not to leave our child and stayed by her every second of her week stay in the Pediatric Unit. We watched many wonderful staff members care for our daughter, but there was one nurse who was incredibly exceptional to us as new scared parents and in her care with our newborn that we wanted to make sure she was recognized. Cheri came into work hitting the ground running, entering our room tor the first time asking how we were doing and how everything was going. We had some challenges the night before getting lab results back and explained how we were concerned and she instantly became an advocate for us and returned within minutes to our room with updated information. Throughout the rest of her shift, the quality of care, skill, empathy, and compassion that she had for our daughter and us was truly exceptional. She took her time sitting down, explaining, educating and answering questions as if we were her only patients. We felt like we were in the best of hands and confident that we were getting above and beyond care from her. We hoped every day that she would be working because we wanted her to care for our daughter, even on the days that she was working but would not have our daughter on her patient list, she would take the time to stop in and check on us and our little one. She is truly an angel and West Penn has one of the best nurses on that unit. We will never forget the care and love she showed us and our daughter during this difficult time.
