It has taken me awhile to be able to think about the care that my wife received at the Trauma ICU. As I look back over it, I realize that the level of care she got could not have been better. The professionalism and skill of the staff were without equal. Having stipulated this, I felt it necessary to particularly single out the work and loving care provided by Mrs. Victoria Wild, one of P's RNs.
From the first day that Vicki cared for P, she went out of her way to make my wife's time in the ICU as easy as possible. She did many specific but seemingly little things that kept my wife's spirits up even as the illness became harder and harder to bear. She took the time to make sure I understood the way things were going and always concentrated on the positive. Another example of her insight and compassion was when she noted my wife was listening to a talking book set in England. She interested herself in it and brought my wife along with her in discussing aspects of life in the UK, thus taking her mind off of her desperate situation for at least a few minutes.
