Theresa Reed's contribution as a care coordinator, mentor, and fierce nursing advocate has made a significant impact on the quality of care that is delivered at the bedside. Theresa wears many hats and covers multiple units, PCU, ICU, OR and HVC. She is generous with her time and resources, a visionary with multiple ongoing projects and a colleague who supports other nurses.
As a care coordinator, Theresa is actively involved with the Cardiothoracic Surgery service. She teaches novice and experienced nurses how to care for the open-heart patients. Her focus is on currentevidence-basedpractice. In addition, Theresa is engaged in Quality Improvement initiatives thatimproveour processes such as Surgeon/Anesthesiologist handoff to the ICU nurse postoperatively. This detailed handoff has enhanced communication between the disciplines and patient goals are mutually defined. Theresa has also has been a mentor to many and always available for questions. She frequently will host a review of a difficult case so all those involved can learn from the experience.
Theresa has promoted the nursing profession by recognizing and celebrating our successes. With her vast network of contacts, she has brought nationally recognized speakers to present relevant topics such as Sepsis management and Nurse Empowerment to our staff to celebrate National Nurse's Week. Last year, she organized her fellow educators to personally sponsor a picnic and raffle for Nurse's day. Her philosophy is "if you take care of the nurses, they will take care of the patients."
Therese is an avid community supporter. She organized and managedthe 2016Save a Life March for the Kitsap area which promoted community awareness ofCardiovascularand Stroke related disease as well as the community's integral role in the 'chain of survival'. It also highlighted Harrison's ability to treat those illnesses and introduced the public to our team. Theresa has also been instrumental in bridging the relationship between ED/ICU nurses and the community first responders such as our local EMT and Paramedics.
As illustrated it is not possible to capture succinctly all of Theresa's contributions to our organization, nurses, and patients. A Don Quixote, she is indefatigable and at times relentless. We are very grateful for her dedication to nursing and her service.
