The patient was presented to the Tallahassee VA Eye Clinic for a follow-up visit. During this visit, it was determined that the patient had bilateral optic nerve swelling. This type of swelling requires an urgent/stat need for an MRI as well as a lumbar puncture to rule out intro cranial pressure. The optometrist seeing the patient attempted to contact the patient's primary care physician and nurse as well as the Clinical Access Unit without success. The optometrist contacted me via text message (as I was off work) explaining the problem requesting my assistance. Since I was not available in the clinic, I contacted RN Terra White on her cell phone. I explained the situation, and without hesitation, she immediately jumped into action. The patient was not a patient of Terra's but she was more than willing to assist by any means possible. Terra went above and beyond to help the optometrist and patient ensuring the patient got the urgent care they needed. Terra exceeded her role here at THCC and I would like to commend her for the excellent care she provided.
