My baby was born prematurely at 33 weeks. He was transferred from our local hospital to Carilion Clinic- RMH for treatment just hours from his birth. We encountered many nurses during our time in the NICU, but the nurse that stood out the most to us was Deborah. She genuinely cared about my baby and our family. She took the time to get to know us. She also took the time to teach me things. I too am an RN, but I needed all the information that she provided. At that point in time, I was a mother to a premature baby fighting for his life, not a nurse. She took her time and didn't rush through care times. She did thorough assessments to make sure that everything was in check with our baby. She made sure that we all were on the right track for discharge home and also made sure that we had all the essentials that we would need for our long drive home. Deborah made the care that we received extraordinary.
