It is my honor and joy to nominate Carrie Luedecker for the DAISY Award.
When Carrie first started caring for my sister in Critical Care, I did not get to know her well the first day. She was too busy helping to save my sister's life. This was no small task given my sister's condition which included total septic shock, low blood pressure, management of the kidney dialysis machine, 11 IV's and an unconscious patient that was thrashing about.
Did Carrie build trust? No question, from the moment she attended to my sister it was obvious that she was a dedicated professional working hard to manage all facets of my sister's care.
Did she communicate important information needed? She did at every step of the way. She kept me informed as well as my two friends who are retired nurses and were at my side during my sister's care at EvergreenHealth. Between the four of us, we worked together to ensure the best for my sister. We were a cohesive team.
Did she create and coordinate an environment conducive to healing and safety? I know Carrie was instrumental in saving my sister's life. I don't think there is a better example of creating an environment conducive to healing and safety.
Did she go above and beyond? Not only did Carrie provide excellent care to my sister, but she also took me into her care as well. She would even make a bed for me in the recliner chair and suggest I take a nap, she would gently suggest that I need to go home and rest when I needed to. She even shared an article on the importance of the caregiver taking care of themselves. Most of all, Carrie's daily hugs gave me strength, courage as well as relief knowing she was caring for my sister.
My sister spent almost two months at EvergreenHealth, mainly in Critical Care. During this time, she had a dozen surgeries. The care and compassion she received by all that cared for her were beyond amazing and we will forever be grateful.
My sister was transferred from EvergreenHealth to Kindred Hospital, where she still is today. Thanks to all the care she has received, she is continuing to make good progress.
My sister and I can't wait for the day when she and I both walk into Critical Care at Evergreen to hug and thank Carrie and the rest of the team.
