When I was transferred from ICU to Rhoads 4018, I was in a very bad condition physically, emotionally and spiritually. I was in great pain, scared and depressed, uncertain of both my desire to live and my right to continue on. My wife called and spoke to the charge nurse on the unit and they got Jillian assigned to me.
Jill saved my life and soul. She not only executed her nursing duties with excellent professionalism and accuracy but also did far beyond that. As stated, I was in bad physical condition and my spirit and heart were in deep despair. The three nights in a row I spent at Rhoads, she not only gave me my medications, but also made me physically comfortable. She lifted my spirit from the darkest depth of despair and gave me hope and optimism. She was very attentive and listened with her heart to my concerns. She talked very gently but firmly with love and honestly. She spent extra hours in my room over those three nights right before Christmas. Jill rescued me out of the darkest time I could imagine and supported me spiritually so I could build my physical strength to heal and carry on.
Jill went way above the duties of being my nurse to ensure that my heart and spirit were taken care of as well as my physical needs. I could write on many pages of all that she did to help me heal, suffice it to say she did whatever it took to talk to me and be there for me when I was in my darkest place and in greatest need. She represents the finest example a caretaker can offer an individual. You should be proud that she is on your team! She helped to save a very hopeless and scared human being, which is why she deserves your highest recognition.
I went home and unfortunately had to return to HUP a week later, but because of her, I was able to go home for a short period. I'm going home again tomorrow and had the greatest fortune of having her as my nurse for those three nights I spent at Rhoads. Again, she went above her duties to help me in every way possible.
