In 2005, Cerner became the fortunate employer of Ashleigh George, a dedicated nurse, with an interest in forging new frontiers. Ashleigh at the time was still a practicing Neuro ICU nurse and added being a Cerner nurse to her life. It was amazing how she was able to balance the level of stress from being new to Cerner to managing the bedside care of critically ill patients, but she was willing to leverage both to make a difference in patient outcomes.
Ashleigh started on our critical care team with a focus on selling and implementing the APACHE Outcomes Solution. Many times, she finished her night shift duties in the Neuro ICU, then got on a plane and headed out to teach clients how Cerner's critical care outcome solution could help them improve patient care. To say she had a dedicated work ethic would be such an understatement. Several years later, she accepted a role as one of the first nurses to join the DeviceWorks team, the technical side of device connectivity at Cerner needed a clinical touch. Ashleigh stepped up to the plate and hit a solid home run. She taught the technical side that clinical workflow was of utmost importance in order to provide our clients with the best experience and to keep our solutions geared to better patient care.
Ashleigh excelled at work as well as public domain. To hear her tell the story of assisting a woman at an airport while waiting for a flight still gives me chills. The woman had passed out, was pulseless, and Ashleigh began CPR. She utilized the emergency equipment from the staff, started an IV, and helped to save the woman's life, who subsequently reached out to Ashleigh a few months later to thank her. Ashleigh steps forward and takes care of whatever situation is before her whether it is personal or professional.
In 2012, Ashleigh had just gotten off a plane at a client site, when she received a devastating call that her sister's infant son had suddenly passed away in his sleep. She was the rock for her family and helped them through the process of organ donation for her nephew. As her friend, as a prior direct report of hers, and as a fellow nurse, she has helped me through friendship and mentoring over the years to manage personal tragedy and to be a stronger Cerner nurse myself. Her caring heart, her lead by example work ethic, her ability to drive a team focused on creating solutions to meet the needs of our clients, their patients, and our associates are only a few reasons why Ashleigh is a true example of a DAISY Nurse.
