As parents, we don't trust many people with our child (with special needs). However, the entire staff here has been great, giving 150% to our child. We especially want to recognize Savannah for her care.
Savannah not only gave 150% in the care of our child, but she took the initiative to get to know us and our child. She asked things about our daughter and via watching how we handled her. I found that she was giving our child stuffed animals, making sure they were placed under her hands for comfort of her sensory issues. She also talked to her all the time like we were doing, as though she was awake. The more we talked and the more I watched her interact with my daughter, I noticed she was talking with her about things that would be familiar to her (good things) that we had talked about out loud to our daughter while she was in drug induced coma. She was observant of our interactions with our child and used that knowledge to help accommodate her.
She also noticed that we were playing movies for her off the "get well network" and we would put one on before we would leave to go eat. However, I noticed that once we came back there was a different movie on. She knew why we played the movies for her. We played them constantly to make her feel she was home. She helped us while we were out of the room by keeping it like "home normal" without asking.
The above is a pure example of one of your RN's going way above and beyond in our book. I will never forget Savannah nor do I feel that our "thank you" is sufficient. Savannah is the definition of all the information I have read about what you want your RN's to represent.
We thank UAB, COA, all the staff, and especially Savannah for going above and beyond.
