As one of the more senior nurses in the PICU, Alli goes above and beyond in all of her nursing roles. She is an excellent preceptor, and shares her knowledge and skills with both newer nurses as well as experienced nurses who are orienting to new experiences. Not only is she a good teacher, but she is excited and passionate about what she teaches, and instills an excellent work ethic in all of her orientees.
Alli puts 110% into everything she does at work; she often volunteers to be a member of patient teams to provide continuity of care, and families have nothing but nice things to say about her. She establishes a connection with all of the patients and families that she cares for, and "family-centered care" is one of her greatest attributes. Alli's bedside manner is something that I personally look up to. She is a calming presence in some of the most acute situations, and does a fantastic job of keeping parents at ease. Certainly there are situations in the PICU where the patient outcomes are bleak; in these situations, Alli does whatever she needs to do to make the end of life experience as peaceful as possible for both the patient and their loved ones. In February I was part of a nursing 2:1 for an end of life patient with Alli, and the empathy and unrelenting presence that she provided for them during this time was truly something remarkable. This patient's outcome could not be changed, but the way that Alli made herself available for this family is an art in the nursing field that not many nurses possess.
From a leadership standpoint, Alli is one of our strongest resource/ charge nurses. To say that she goes above and beyond in this role is an understatement. When Alli is resource, I know that the assignments will be appropriate, and that there will always be an extra set of hands. Alli offers her assistance to all of the nurses on the unit without needing to be asked. She is giving, respects her coworkers, and will do anything for her peers.
In short, Alli goes above and beyond her job description in order to deliver excellent care to her patients. Alli has both the respect and trust of all of the staff here in the PICU, and truly encompasses all of the qualities of a DAISY Nurse. I cannot think of a more deserving, hard-working candidate.
