In June, Amy took on the role as interim nurse leader on 8T. Recently, there was a patient who was diagnosed with leukemia. During his hospitalization, he didn't have many visitors and every day during nurse leader rounding Amy noticed this patient becoming depressed and withdrawn. One day during rounding, she just sat and talked with the patient trying to lift his spirits. She commented on how beautiful the view outside his window was and he stated, "I'm just sitting here watching my life go by." The next day during nurse leader rounding, she noticed on his communication board a goal for the day was to eat crab legs. Amy asked the patient about his goal, and he stated he just wanted some crab legs. Amy called various places to find some crab legs. She was able to find some at a local grocery store. When she went to pick them up she told them they were for a patient who was going through a tough time. The deli employee cooked the crab legs and Amy brought them to the patient. When Amy went back to visit with the patient, he was sitting up in the chair with the biggest smile on his face and was so happy Amy took the time to help him achieve his goal of eating crab legs, and, the patient ate it all!
