One of our ED nurses, S, has been caring for her husband, E our lab supervisor, for the last 14 months in which he has been battling stomach cancer. After 17 rounds of chemo, he was scheduled to undergo surgery to remove his stomach. S made a simple request that staff wear Superman stickers or colors in support of E. Denisha Dozier took it upon herself to go a step further. She organized a fundraiser in support of E with the ordering of Superman shirts for staff. The Superman theme was chosen because E's wife S had given him that nickname years ago, because he was a "Superman" for his family and coworkers. On April 11th and 12th, the staff wore their Superman shirts to work as a show of support for E. Denishia raised over $1000.00 in donations within 2 days. E's surgery also went exceptionally well. It's because of Denishia's caring and compassionate nature that she was able to accomplish this wonderful deed and bring the ED together as a family.
