Holley has been a nurse here for many years; she will soon transition into the advanced practice nurse role as she joins the pulmonary team this fall. We will be lucky to have her continue to care for our patients in this new capacity, but will greatly miss her as a bedside nurse, charge nurse, and a leader.
Holley has provided me with more mentoring than she will ever know. She leads by example in all things she does. She continuously displays her strong character in the ways she treats her patients, her peers, and her friends. Holley always seems to have the answer, whether it is a clinical answer or one in guiding your "ethical compass". I have witnessed Holley in highly stressful situations, she never fails to remain calm and provide the leadership required for the rest of us to proceed. Holley has taught me many things; many years ago, she taught me the signs and symptoms of a patient in shock. I was a new nurse and had a patient that was not doing well, Holley used this opportunity to teach me a head to toe assessment as well as a clinical picture that could connect to a diagnosis of shock. I will never forget this, I will always carry this with me and I am a better nurse because of it.
She has precepted many nurses on the unit. Holley has been the "go-to" girl for many new hires. She is able to provide not only her wealth of knowledge, but the compassion and encouragement that many new nurses need. This is a hard profession and pulmonary is a challenging floor; Holley has been able to provide confidence to nurses who were ready to give up. Holley has also stressed to me the pride that comes with being a nurse. She had taught me the importance of education and advocating in this profession.
There are many great nurses here at Children's, however, I believe when one as great as Holley comes along it must be recognized. Thanks to Holley the bar has been set high. I am honored to call her coworker, fellow pulmonary nurse, and friend. Thank you Holley, you have done more than you will ever know.
