Jackie Pekala is someone who models empathy and exhibits a caring attitude making that special connection with her patients and family members. Jackie had three nominations this month, all indicating the many ways she's recognized as an outstanding role model, providing superhuman work every day.

During one patient's stay, she was quick to mention the outstanding care she received by Jackie, saying what a shining example she is, professional in every way. She should be proud of her dedication, hard work and excellent patient care.

Another patient spoke of how she wanted nothing more than to be "out of here" as she was so miserable. Jackie made her feel so happy and comfortable, "she made my stay so much easier, she is deserving of this award."

A third patient describes Jackie as an excellent nurse who was "very caring and empathetic to me and my loved one. She not only went above and beyond, giving great nursing care, but also tried to obtain information for us on the diagnosis. She truly tried to alleviate the anxiety related to being in the hospital."

It is cliche, but so fitting, when we say "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree" as Michael Nichols, Jackie's son, also received his DAISY Award this month.
