Peder is well known for his "go-getter" attitude and helpfulness. He is constantly being called by floor nurses to help them start lines or learn about chest tube management and is always more than happy to help a fellow nurse sharpen her skills in these areas with "tricks-of-trade" that he has learned over the many years he has been in the medical field.

Peder is part of the IR Process and Quality Improvement Committee and helps develop ways to make the department run smoothly improving the quality of patient care.

Peder is one of the most compassionate and caring people that I have had the pleasure of meeting. He is a joy to work with and promotes comradely and respect in and outside of the department.

We call him the mayor of LaGrange Hospital because Peder knows everyone and everyone knows him . He befriends everyone from upper management to environmental services and treats everyone with the same respect. He greets staff, patients and their families with a smile and a handshake.
I haven't met a staff member that has a negative thing to say about him. Our IR staff loves working with him because he is approachable and wants the best for the department and for us as individuals. I personally think he is one of the best nurses I have ever worked with. He is professional and compassionate. He speaks to families and patients in a caring tone of voice and makes them feel comfortable and less stressed about the procedure they are about to have. He truly cares about everyone; he treats staff and patients as if they were his own family.
For me, he is like a brother I never had. I can count on him for everything and I know that he always has my best interest in mind, personally and professionally. He even changed my flat tire last winter during a snowstorm when the ground was frozen, remember how cold it was last winter? He made me sit in my car to keep warm while he froze. I can't begin to count how many patients and their families have come to our department and remember him from a previous procedure and get a big smile on their face while saying " I remember you." That tells me what a positive impact he has had on our patient and family experience.
He also goes above and beyond. I think the whole hospital knows him because of his excellent IV start skills. He gets calls weekly from various floors and departments to start IV's. He always finds the time and never refuses to help another nurse out. You will never hear him say " that's not my job." He is trying to teach his magical IV skills to other nurses as well. He started an IV on a patient that even an anesthesiologist was not able to get.
Peder was also recognized by the hospital for contributing to the employee giving campaign despite having a family of his own to support. He has taken on the role of clinical coordinator in IR. He has proven to be a great leader for our department. Since he has taken over, our department has gone through many positive changes. Many times, I have said, "we need this" and it appears within a month or so. Our relationship with other departments has improved. He made sure we have appropriate equipment and forms and keeps us current on the changes occurring in the hospital. He is on quality improvement committees and helps set up in-services for staff to be up to date.

Peder always displays professionalism and compassion toward patient and family. Such a simple thing as an introduction to all family members with a smile and handshake puts them at ease. He goes above and beyond what is required to assist others.
One patient recently had his car break down while he was on his way to the hospital so he called to tell us that he would be very late for his procedure. In response, he took time out from his day to drive over and pick this patient up nearby. He had remembered meeting this man from previous procedures and wanted to make sure he was able to get his procedure and be comfortable. Besides being a great team leader for our department, he is his own " IV starter" department. We
receive calls from all over the hospital for him to come and get an IV for them. He has a personal challenge to start any IV on any patient with ONE stick- and almost always succeeds. He is an excellent asset to our department.
