Lynne has always been a strong advocate for her patients and for their families but one weekend exemplified her tremendous care. We (PICU) had a family from Ethiopia that had been in the US for a while but maintained many of their cultural traditions. The mom spoke only Oromo; the rest of the family spoke a varying amount of English. Initially the mom and sisters hovered over the teenage girl, keeping her covered and maintaining traditions. Lynne spent time looking up the clothing and traditions and integrating them into her cares. By the end of the weekend the family would come and go, leave Lynne in charge of the girl displaying complete trust in her care-which helped them develop trust in all of us. She also took what she learned and documented in the orders and care plans so the rest of the caretakers would have use of the information and there would be continuity of care and we can maintain a trustful relationship with this family.
