My husband brought me into the UNMC Emergency Room at 3:00 AM as I was having severe abdominal pain. Our 3 children ages 10, 7, & 4 were in tow. My husband waited with the children in the waiting room, checking on me periodically, while I waited mostly alone. Pam Denney was very comforting and checked on me frequently. She explained everything that was happening. It turned out that I had Gall Stones and had to make a decision on having emergency surgery. Pam helped talk me thru the decision. She emphasized that I was in control. She helped me with my decisions on pain medication since I wanted to avoid morphine due to a family allergy. She helped me feel confident in the medical team and in my surgeon Dr. W. I decided to have the surgery and was released on Sunday. Everyone who helped me at the Med Center was very nice, competent, and helped make my stay as pleasant as possible, but Pam gave that little something extra that made the world of difference to me. I felt that she was an advocate for me and had my best interests at heart. She provided me very valuable comfort and counsel at a very distressing time. Please accept my nomination of Pam Denney in the ER for the DAISY Award. I believe she is the epitome of what good nursing care should be.
