Brenda always comes in 3p-11p and often times I am scrambling to tie down loose ends to float to another area of care. While I am a float pool nurse I often get floated to another heavy assignment that may have loose ends of their own, a discharge or two from rounds at 2 pm, or an admission that's already called up in 15 minutes. Brenda also comes into similar circumstances, floats out of her own unit, and always just accepts her fate and does the best that she can. Today in particular I had been feeling really burnt out with patient care and needed to float to Balfour unit from 3 pm-7 pm after a 7 am-3 pm on Montplaisir. Brenda was selfless, she could have stayed on her home unit and breezed through, instead, she went above and beyond like she does for her patients to get the job done. She is one of the only nurses that believe in transfer of care from shift to shift and it's not your time, my time, it's our time. Brenda may not think her sacrifice went unnoticed of how much it meant to me but sometimes it's the little effortless actions of others that make me want to come back to work here everyday. That should be the Sturdy way!
