... my friend returned back to MICU, after suffering a massive heart attack on the 5th floor step-down unit. She was in bed 3 and Scott Torrance was her nurse in MICU. During her stay, family kept a constant vigil with her. They were touched and amazed at the skills demonstrated by Scott. He was warm and friendly, open, and honest about her prognosis and care. He was professional, yet caring and gentle with her and her son and daughter, offering warming blankets when they were chilled, and beverages for their thirst. He was easily approachable with our many questions, and attentive to her symptoms and comfort measures. He treated all of us with utmost respect and compassion. Scott gave the family privacy as needed and was a superb patient advocate with her other physicians and hospitalist explaining every step of her treatment in layman's terms. Scott care for her until she was transferred to seventh floor. We are indebted to him for his kindness and patience and ultimate nursing professionalism! He made a trying experience much less painful, both emotionally, and physically for her and her loved ones. Scott is truly a credit to UPMC Hamot!! Bravo!! And, many thanks.
