I have worked with MaryLou for 20 plus years in the Operating Room. She is an exceptional circulating nurse and a wonderful asset to the department. She is the most patient conscious nurse that we have in our department. She is extremely thorough and has developed a professional rapport with all the surgeons and staff.
I look up to her as a nurse and a mentor.
She is a plastics coordinator for our surgery department and is very knowledgeable in this area and is very dependable.
Again, MaryLou is an exceptional circulating nurse in the operating room. This nomination is a very well-deserved opportunity for her. I would love to have her as my nurse if I needed one. Very trusting, compassionate, knowledgeable nurse.

It is a bittersweet moment to realize that one of your most valuable coworkers is retiring. I started working at EMH four years ago, straight out of school with no experience in the Operating Room. MaryLou was one of my many preceptors. You learn a little bit from every nurse you come across, but I learned not only the technical aspects of the job but also the heart. MaryLou truly values and exudes the passion and meaning of being a nurse and patient advocate. She is strong-willed and never afraid to speak up and question the actions of others. She does so with a bit of much-appreciated humor when necessary, and a whole lot of respect and tact. From her, I learned to never sacrifice the safety of your patient no matter how hard it is to confront a problem. She taught me that short cuts can be helpful but never at the expense of the patient. I learned the important honesty in interactions with your peers and in your practice. When my peers think about what the future of their nursing career will look like, you'll often hear "Be the next MaryLou." That's not a bad thing at all and is something to strive for. We need more MaryLou's in the world. Thank you for your decades of service and for all you've taught me as a nurse.

I have worked with MaryLou for the past 32 years and she has been my mentor, my support and the nurse I admire most MaryLou is always a patient advocate, she is always on her game, efficient, organized, respectful and such a professional. With approximately 42 years with Wheaton/Ascension she has been involved in training almost the entire nursing staff here is the Clinical Coordinator for Plastics, fills in as a Charge Nurse and is an all-around resource for all surgical practices and procedures.

MaryLou has been an employee here for 40+ years. She was one of my preceptors when I first began working in the operating room 5 years ago. Over the years, she has continued to be an excellent role model in professionalism, compassionate patient care, and a wealth of knowledge. MaryLou is a special nurse because she exemplifies all the qualities of an outstanding nurse-making safe and quality patient care her first priority. Thanks, MaryLou.

This nurse has dedicated many years of service along with exceptional care to her patients. She is a true DAISY Nurse for all of her hard work and compassionate care. I can only hope to have a nurse like her to care for me if I need it.
