... a patient who was having GI bleeding and was on Lactulose every 4 hours. The patient has weak legs and needed two nurses to assist to ambulate, he did not want to defecate on the diaper in bed, he wanted to have his bowel movements in the bathroom. Catherine Palasi, seeing this situation and wanting to keep the patient's dignity, helped me to walk the patient to the bathroom almost every 30 minutes all night. At the end of the day the patient was so grateful and happy.
I still remember the patient's smile and the satisfaction I got from doing this for the patient. I am so very grateful to Catherine for letting me have this experience. I have ever since always tried to let my patients keep the self respect and dignity.
This is just one act of kindness that I mentioned, almost everyone she come in touch with have one or more of such experiences to tell about her. She is a very special nurse with the soul of Florence Nightingale. She is synonymous with selfless service.
