Lydia exemplifies the qualities of an exceptional, compassionate nurse. The first time Lydia entered my room she was focused on me with a warm smile and friendly conversation. She assessed how I was doing, explained medications, and answered my questions in a calm and professional manner. Prior to her exiting my room she would ask what else she could do for me. She would tell me when she would be back to check on me. Her actions and words were reassuring that I would be monitored closely.
Lydia was committed to her word in following up and checking on me. If she was unable to make it back to my room, which was very rare, she would send another nurse. All of the nurses and CNAs were very caring and friendly. I understand a nurse has patients who are sicker and need more attention. When I know my nurse is attentive and provided me the things I need physically and emotionally, I am very grateful. I believe she is giving the same highly skilled and compassionate care to other people.
My temperature would spike to over 102 degrees every day. I was hoping to go home if my fever stayed down but again my temperature spiked. I had a tearful moment. Lydia came into my room, sat down beside me, gently touched my arm, and listened as I shared my feelings. She stayed with me as long as I needed it. She demonstrated such compassion.
I asked if she thought a volunteer could go to the gift shop to get me some magazines. When the CNA returned with no magazines, I realized maybe it was due to the flu season. She is a great CNA. I wished them Happy Valentines' Day and to enjoy the evening with their families.
After Lydia completed her 12-hour shift, she went and bought me some magazines. She went above and beyond out of kindness.
FHN should be very proud to have such a wonderful nurse who makes a difference in the lives of her patients.
Thank you, Lydia!
