Loretta Malone RN was nominated by a Hospital Chaplain, who wrote:

I worked with Loretta on a Saturday night this past July when a 20 year old autistic man had come to Mount Sinai very sick in the ER. He was transferred up to MICU/CCU and, after multiple Code Blues, he passed away. The man's mother was present the whole time and his brother was present the majority of the time. The mother was very distressed, understandably, and Loretta was a constant presence throughout the multiple codes. Loretta was compassionate, clearly explaining everything that was going on to the mother, and caring for her and acknowledging her feelings. Loretta was the nurse who called the mother's sister to get her to come to the hospital, and who (along with myself) supported the mother when she was allowed to view her son's body for the first time. Loretta also thought to ask the mother about her health conditions and made sure that she drank juice to keep her sugar up. Loretta also took the time and energy to wheel the mother in her wheelchair with her sister and son down to the front lobby, accompanying them with support, information, and words of encouragement literally to the hospital doo. Loretta thanked me and the security officers for our role in assisting the family as well. Loretta is truly compassionate and I believe highly deserving of the award.
