Joanne responded to a patient family member in a way that is to be commended. The wife of the patient was angry and distraught. Joanne came to see her. Through conversation and listening, Joanne discovered that the wife was frustrated and at her wits end regarding the overwhelming responsibility she has had since her husband has been hospitalized. Finances poor, worried about bills, could not afford parking, etc.

Joanne took the time to listen and HEAR what this woman had to say and understood her needs. Joanne got social service involved, made sure the wife had meals when she was in to visit and that we took care of her needs as well as her husbands. She collaborated with the entire team to make sure that all of the couple's needs were met during the hospitalization. The patient and his wife were very grateful for her kindness and compassion.
