Ailen Ordanza truly reflects what it means to be a DAISY nurse. She is a role model within our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and demonstrates influence in her ability to build relationships with team members and patient families while she serves as a highly skilled resource nurse for the acutely ill neonates central line insertions and care. Ailen is a true example of an expert nurse, who's attributes are honesty, compassion, and integrity in every situation.

While caring for some of the most critical patients, Ailen embraces the needs of the parents and families, and discusses the care she and the team as a whole are providing to their child. The kindness displayed in her nursing care and in her words is heartfelt with families and it is obvious that families feel informed and have a sense of security.

An example of her extraordinary sensitivity and care was when premature Baby A became no longer compatible with survival long term. Ailen supported the grieving parents with support, kindness, and honesty as they began to understand, comprehend and eventually made their heart wrenching decision to let him pass peacefully. During the process of losing their baby, Ailen displayed in her nursing care warmth and dignity, and encouraged family to participate in Baby A's care and time to love and be present with their baby. Through the process of educating and validating families, Ailen pours her heart and soul into every aspect of care the babies receive, and that display of love and excellent care is a gift she shares readily and undeniably.
