Kerry has been a BJC nurse for 26 years. Even after 26 years, this nurse still has tremendous compassion for her patients and their families. Just recently, I witnessed Kerry cry, hug, and comfort a concerned family with two small children who did not know if they would see their mommy again. Kerry put herself in the shoes of this family and provided the utmost compassionate, ethical, professional, warm, and loving care to a critically ill patient and her children. Their mommy was on no contact isolation precautions. Kerry even took the time to use surgical scissors to cut and trim the isolation gowns so the two children had gowns to wear to visit their mom in the ICU.
Kerry also precepts new nurses and has been doing so for years with meticulous attention to detail. When I come to work and Kerry is there, I smile thinking "it's going to be a good day because patients will be well taken care of if Kerry is on duty". What a role model, after 26 years she still has the heart of a new grad.
