I believe that Lem truly exemplifies what it means to be a DAISY Nurse. As you will see in the feedback shared below, Lem is consistently recognized for the outstanding care she provides to her patients, as well as the wonderful compassion that she shows.
Unfortunately, our patient population regularly deals with the stigma of having a substance use disorder. They often feel judged and misunderstood because of that, even from healthcare professionals. However, I regularly hear from patients that Lem accepts them just as they are, that she never passes judgment, and that she makes people feel like they matter.
Our patients also regularly deal with relapse. However, Lem always encourages them to keep fighting. As people mentioned below, she gives them hope and reminds them why they are fighting for sobriety. The patient that submitted the story below, credits Lem for saving her life. This is not the first time that a patient has said this!
As Lem's manager for the past few years, I always know that I can count her. She keeps me informed, is always willing to pick up extra hours to help if we are understaffed, always encourages teamwork, and certainly always goes above and beyond to provide the very best care to our patients. This is very evident in the following recognition that she has received from patients:
