My coworker Amber had a patient that was just admitted to our unit with multiple health issues the day before she saw her. Amber found out that the patient's 16 year old daughter's birthday was the day Amber saw the patient. Amber went down to the gift shop and picked out multiple items she thought a 16 year old girl would like and took them up to the patient's room. Amber told the patient to pick out anything she wanted to give her daughter for her birthday and that cost was of no issue. The patient picked out three things and a card which Amber paid for. The patient was surprised and very thankful for Amber's kindness. Amber certainly went above and beyond to make this patient's day special.
Amber is a recognizable face and support to patients that are admitted to the hospital that were followed in the past and/or currently in the Wound Clinic. Amber is a good listener to her patients and frequently recognizes when patients are dealing with other issues besides their health. She is able to seek out resources to assist the patient and shares information to her peers to ensure continuity of care.
