My wife was transferred to Chippenham Hospital due to heart issues. Once at Chippenham, she was assigned to the 4th-floor telemetry unit. Robert was assigned to her for the night shift. Upon my return the next morning my wife spoke very highly of Robert and how he immediately comforted her and continued to do so throughout the night. He was very personable and genuine in his interactions. I looked forward to meeting Robert that evening.
As soon as he entered the room, I felt the same way as my wife had described him. Robert just eased the tension and anxiety with his demeanor and compassion. As he performed his duties, he shared with us some of his personal struggles. He truly could empathize with us, but he was also lighthearted.
For the first time in my experience, he sat down next to the bed and spoke with us in such a way that was beyond what he has to do but rather that we needed. Robert played a song from his phone that so moving. What an awesome experience. It was a changing point in our current situation with my wife. I will not soon if ever, forget Robert. I told him he was a Godsend and I believe he was our Angel from God. His timing and presence were beyond what we could have asked for. By the description of this pamphlet, Robert meets the criteria for this award and without a doubt is the example of what Patrick Barnes must have experienced during his time.
