I was a surgical patient on the afternoon in November 2019. The surgery was kind of last-minute since I had only met my surgeon that morning. It was something minor, but still required anesthesia. Of course, I was nervous. I have paralyzed vocal folds on the left side, paralyzed during a previous surgery. So, any time I have to have anesthesia, I am worried.
I want to let you know what an asset your employee, Kelsy Kimassi - RN, is to Methodist Willowbrook Hospital. She was my nurse in the pre-op area. I was told to be there at 2:00 pm for what was supposed to be a 4:15-ish surgery.
I want to make sure you know that she is a wonderful, caring, professional person, who did her best to keep me comfortable during my wait time. She laughed at my bad jokes (like swearing she dressed me like a "peep" with my purple gown and yellow socks), explained everything she did to get me ready, offered my friend crackers and juice (even asking if she wanted ice in her juice!).
I was a hard stick for taking blood and getting my IVs started. I have small veins, and they tend to contract when I am scared. She was as gentle as could be, and she even changed her strategies as time went on. She called in extra help when she knew she needed to take extraordinary steps to get the IV going. She also timed that difficult procedure to happen as the chaplain was talking to me and my friend, keeping my eyes and my mind off what she was doing.
Kelsy is, by far, the most professional, capable, and caring person in this environment of the above-average.
I don't have the means to reward her for her care and concern for me. I hope that you might be able to reward her in some way - so that she knows what she does for patients doesn't go unnoticed.
