Katrina works on 7100 which is a busy and stressful unit where there are plenty of amazing and caring nurses. However, recently, she stood out just a bit more. We came on to shift that morning not knowing what to expect. One of our patient's suddenly had extreme jaw pain, crushing chest pain, and a sense of doom. Katrina was assigned to this patient. She got to the patient's bedside at 0645 and started working hard to save the patient. She hooked him up to our monitors and took him to a STAT CT. On the way there the patient felt like they were going to die. The patient kept saying "'I'm going to die, tell my kids I love them!" Katrina looked at him and said, "You are not going to die, stay with me, keep looking at me, and keep talking to me!" She rushed him back to the unit as she pushed the bed with the patient and continued to give him encouragement. We spend another 2 hours doing multiple things to save him. Katrina continued to speak and encourage the patient, "Don't give up, stay with me". She even held the phone to his ear as the patient talked to his kids, saying how much he loves them and his goodbyes, all the while as she held the phone with one hand and pushing medications with the other hand. The patient after that was rushed to the OR by Katrina and several doctors. She continued to be there and would pray with the patient and showed the patient compassion and love in a very stressful time. She demonstrates not only being a great nurse but lives Loma Linda's Values as she saves lives. The patient survived and got to go home with his family. He told Katrina, "I will never forget your face and voice, thank you, thank you." She is a true DAISY Nurse.
