My sister had the privilege of delivering her first child at Elkhart General Hospital. As a Beacon Nurse myself, I always have the confidence that my family members will receive great care at Beacon. I received a text from my sister asking me to come to the hospital for the evening and that she had an "Awesome nurse." When I met Emily you could see her passion. Emily doesn't just provide great care, she provides an exceptional experience. I wanted to teach her breastfeeding tactics. Emily was an amazing cheerleader. She constantly praised both my sister and her husband. Emily called them by name and even called the baby by her name with every interaction. Emily was prompt and always came when she said she would. She took every moment as a teaching moment to prepare them to take care of Baby K when she got home. Some may say these things are expected of a Mother Baby nurse. While I agree, I also believe that it can be done with excellence. Emily demonstrated excellence. She was knowledgeable. She made my sister feel like she was the only patient she had. She was caring, kind, and compassionate. Emily loved on Baby K and her parents. Elkhart General, you are lucky to have Emily caring for patients in your hospital. She is a gem.
