I was hospitalized with complications from my auto-immune disease, Chrohn's. Although all of the nurses in the unit were helpful, Kara stood out as extraordinary in her commitment to my physical and psychological care and healing. When I expressed concerns about the several medications she went into great detail to explain their uses and side-effects. When I told her that I wished I could understand what medications were being used for Chrohn's nowadays she went to the effort of finding the complete list online and printed it out for me to keep and discuss with my doctor. As busy as she was, I found it extraordinary that she could perceive how important this would be for me and to follow through. When I was concerned about how to find a referral for a GI specialist she was able to talk through options with me. When the doctor. ordered a new powerful drug for me she listened to all of my concerns and eased my anxiety by letting me know that it was ok to ask questions of the doctor before I started anything.
By empowering me to participate in my health care decision like this, Kara eliminated my worries about treatment. She approaches her job with scientific efficiency and a great level of TRUE compassion and understanding of the vulnerability that a patient can feel. She is a gift and a rare one! Thank you!
