As I'm sure you are aware, a hospital visit, especially when it concerns your mother, can be very distressing. Everything is out of place when your mother is the one in the hospital bed. However, in the midst of a difficult time, one person in particular was able to bring a sense of calm and comfort to our family.
Although all of the nurses and other staff that we came in contact with were great, Terri Morton stood out for her compassion and the apparent love she has for her job, her patients, and the families at JRMC. She quickly became the lens through which we viewed JRMC and I must say, she made it look good. We have been in and out of the hospital before but this time, things seemed better.
It would be impossible to state exactly what Terri did that created such a changed environment for us all, but I will try my best to list a few qualities. Within just two days she became more than a nurse to us. She was personable and did everything she could to make us comfortable. She treated us with respect and never gave the impression that we were a "bother". The care she provided was exceptional; her care was the definition of "going the extra mile." Terri felt like part of the family and that she cared about my mother as much as anyone else in that room.
Perhaps the most important and yet simplest virtue of Terri during our brief stay was that somehow, she made my mother feel safe. That's something that was beyond my ability at that time and in those circumstances. The rest of our family could not give her that feeling. But, Terri did.
I congratulate you as an institution for having such an exceptional nurse on your staff. I'm sure there are many other nurses that the same could be said of but Terri, in particular, touched our lives and our hearts. We will not forget what she did for us in just two short days at JRMC.
