This past year Alanna Kearns has stepped up to the plate multiple times and taken on roles that are not related to her job. Alanna never says no, and she is always open to seeing how she can help. This year indeed has been challenging for her, but with her leadership and perseverance, she was able to accomplish things that would take 3 people to do.
Alanna started the fiscal year by agreeing to take on the lead of Interim Director of the Emergency Room while all along still performing her duties as a Stroke Coordinator. She inherited immediately a unit that was hungry for leadership and had departmental dynamics that needed addressing right away. She recognized immediately the needs of the Emergency Room and she provided leadership to the ER staff and provided staff space, growth and encouragement to create a compassionate caring environment. The department started changing their attitude and when the new Director came in, he took over and continued the great work she had started.
Alanna is an asset to SBMC and to the organization. Aside from showing she could handle the interim ER director position, she simultaneously worked on getting us the recertification for our Stroke Program. The greatness does not stop there, she did all this as she was working to get us our first accreditation to Chest Pain.
Alanna is one of the few individuals that always strives for professional excellence. Before the fiscal year ended she stepped up and agreed to have oversight over the Interventional Radiology Nurses. She displays the core values of excellence and collaboration.
This past year Alanna was also recognized as one of the best Stroke Coordinators in the Dignity Health system. Whether it is creating a successful program for stroke or implementing a staff program, Alanna's leadership, skill, and ability have contributed to encouraging the different teams to innovate these Programs. Her compassionate heart has encouraged them every step along the way.
