By the Grace of God and the heroic actions of Kristy Schumacher and others Jim is alive today.
It was Dead-Weird Nights in Deadwood on Saturday and almost everyone was in costumes, Kristy, an employee of Rapid City Regional Hospital and also a reserve officer for the Deadwood Police Department, quickly responded to a 911 call and ran several blocks to the Franklin Hotel where Jim had collapsed and was in cardiac arrest, not breathing and no pulse. Lisa and Kristy gave CPR and continued compressions until AED was given. Kristy watched over Jim all the way. Not only was she concerned about him, but was always checking to see if I was alright. Kristy is a strong, compassionate, and caring nurse. Once Jim was put into the ambulance he went into cardiac arrest for the second time. Kristy’s husband shocked him and brought him back.
To our surprise Kristy is a Registered Nurse on the 6th floor of the cardiac unit at Rapid City Regional Hospital. She came into the room and gave Jim a hug and said “I’m so glad you’re here”. We thanked her and she said that anyone would have done what she had done.
We are forever grateful because of Kristy’s quick response and knowing what to do. She played a big part in saving Jim’s live. Sometimes it takes a miracle to realize how great God is, how precious life is, and that special people are there for a reason. Thank you Kristy!
